Head of Project Operations

Job description

Your new company

We are partnering with a leading Australian health organisation to recruit a Head of Project Operations. This is a unique leadership opportunity to join a highly specialised environment. This role is ideal for an experienced operational leader who enjoys managing complex programs, leading high-performing teams, and driving continuous improvement in a regulated environment.

Your new role

Reporting directly to the Director, you will lead a project delivery function responsible for coordinating the operational execution of a large portfolio of programs.
This is not a traditional project management role where you are creating project scopes, budgets or schedules. Instead, you will ensure established programs are delivered effectively, with internal teams aligned, resources coordinated, milestones achieved, and operational processes running efficiently. You will provide leadership for a team of Project Leads, Coordinators and support staff while working closely with operational and external stakeholder groups. Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary project delivery team.
  • Oversee the operational delivery of a large portfolio of concurrent programs.
  • Ensure project milestones, reporting requirements and deliverables are achieved.
  • Drive process improvement, operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coach and mentor leaders across the team while fostering a positive and high-performing culture.
  • Develop strong relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across business units to ensure effective communication, information flow and service delivery.
  • Review systems, processes and governance frameworks to enhance efficiency and reduce duplication.

What you'll need to succeed

We are interested in speaking with candidates who offer:
  • Strong operational leadership experience.
  • Proven success leading teams through complex project or program delivery environments.
  • Experience driving business improvement and process optimisation initiatives.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • A collaborative and people-focused leadership style.
  • Strong coaching, mentoring and change management capabilities.
  • Experience within healthcare, aged care, research, government or other highly regulated sectors will be highly regarded.
Most importantly, you will be a practical and approachable leader who can provide stability, support continuous improvement, and build strong relationships across a diverse stakeholder network.

What you'll get in return

  • Competitive salary package

  • Access to salary packaging benefits

  • Competitive annual leave benefits

  • Opportunity to lead a well-established team delivering meaningful outcomes.
