Privacy at a glance
Most visitors never need an account: you can search and read every job on Job-Q.com without telling us who you are. We only ask you to register when you use a feature that needs one, mainly our AI suitability assessment.
- Browsing is anonymous to us. We don't link searches or page views to you. Google Analytics and Google AdSense do set cookies, explained below.
- Your resume is never stored. For an AI assessment we read your resume in memory, send it with the job ad to OpenAI, show you the result, then discard it.
- Most jobs are applied for elsewhere. Many listings come from other job boards. When you click Apply, you go to that site and its privacy policy applies.
- We don't sell your personal information, and we keep your email address only to identify you or to send you important messages.
- You're in control. Ask us at any time to see, correct or delete your account data.
1. Who we are
Job-Q.com is an independent job listing website focused on jobs in Australia. It is run entirely online by the Job-Q.com team ("we", "us"). It isn't a registered company and has no physical office. This policy covers how we handle personal information on our website, and the emails we send from it.
Our visitors come from many countries. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles as our standard and respect the privacy rights of every visitor, wherever they live. Some job listings link to other websites. Their privacy policies apply to anything you do there.
2. What we collect
What we collect depends on what you do. If you only browse, we collect nothing that identifies you directly.

3. How we use it
We use personal information only to run the features you use, and to keep the site working and secure. Specifically, we use it to:
- create and secure your account, including email verification and password resets
- generate the AI suitability assessments you request
- pass your application to the employer you applied to
- send important emails only, such as verification codes, password resets, security notices and application notices
- understand which searches and pages are popular, so we can improve the site
- detect and block spam, bots and abuse
- meet our legal obligations
Your email address. We hold your email address only when we need it to identify you (sign-in, verification and password resets) or to send you important messages about your account, its security or a job application. We don't use it for newsletters or marketing. We only share it with an employer when you apply to their job. If you delete your account, we delete your email address too.
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't use your resume for any purpose beyond the assessment you asked for.
4. The AI suitability assessment
Your resume is processed once and then discarded. Job-Q.com never saves it. Here is exactly what happens:
- You upload a resume (PDF, DOCX or TXT, up to 5 MB) or paste its text.
- Our server pulls the text out of the file in memory. The file is never saved.
- We send that text, with the job ad, to OpenAI's API, which writes a match score, your strengths, any gaps and a verdict.
- We show you the result once. It is held only in your browser session, for about 2 hours at most.
- We record your account ID and the time, and nothing else, to enforce the limit of 3 assessments a day.
OpenAI processes the text on servers in the United States. How OpenAI stores, retains and uses that text is governed by OpenAI's own privacy policy and terms, which are managed by OpenAI and outside our control. Please read OpenAI's privacy policy before using this feature.
Tips: You can remove your address, phone number or other details from your resume before you upload it. The assessment is a guide only. It doesn't decide anything about you, and we never share it with employers.
5. Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use a small number of our own cookies, plus cookies from Google for analytics and ads.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your past visits to this and other websites. Google's advertising cookies let Google and its partners show you ads based on those visits.
Your choices:
- Turn off personalised ads in Google's ad settings.
- Opt out of some third-party vendors at aboutads.info.
- Block Google Analytics with Google's opt-out add-on.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, sign-in will stop working.

Our search-keyword log stores only the words searched and the time. It is not linked to you, your account or your IP address.
6. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the parties below, and only for the reasons given.
- Employers. When you apply for a job posted directly on Job-Q.com, the employer gets your name, email and mobile number.
- Service providers. These are OpenAI (AI assessments), Google (analytics and ads) and our hosting provider DigitalOcean. They may only use the information to provide their service. We send emails from our own mail server.
- Where job ads are republished. Job listings, but not applicant details, may be posted to our Facebook and Threads pages and included in Google's job search. Before posting, we remove email addresses and phone numbers from the listing text.
- When the law requires it. We share information with authorities when required by law, or when needed to protect someone's safety or our legal rights.
- If the site changes hands. If Job-Q.com is sold or transferred, personal information may pass to the new owner. This policy would continue to apply.
Overseas disclosure. We may store and process information on servers in any country we choose, including countries outside Australia. OpenAI and Google may also store or process information in the United States and other countries. We choose providers who have contractual privacy and security commitments.
7. How long we keep it, and how we protect it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it. Retention periods for each type of data are listed in section 2. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, applications and saved jobs within 14 days. A copy may remain in backups for up to 30 days.
Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. The site runs over HTTPS. Admin access is limited to authorised staff. No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you promptly, and any regulator the law requires us to notify.
8. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. Email hello@job-q.com. We'll reply within 30 days.
- Access and correction. You can edit most details yourself on your profile page. For anything else, email us.
- Deletion. Email us from your account's email address and we'll delete your account.
- Anonymity. You can browse and search all jobs without giving us your name. Features that need an account can't be used anonymously.
- Complaints. Contact us first and we'll try to fix the problem. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the privacy regulator where you live. In Australia, that is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
9. Children, changes and contact
Job-Q.com is for people aged 15 and over who are looking for work. We don't knowingly collect information from younger children.
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll also post a notice on the site.
