Your new role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Water Systems Officer to support the delivery of safe drinking water, water resource management, and catchment management services. This role combines technical water quality expertise, project delivery, compliance management, and field-based monitoring activities.
The successful candidate will contribute to water quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, environmental management projects, and risk management programmes while working closely with internal stakeholders and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the coordination and delivery of safe drinking water, water resource management, and catchment management services.
- Conduct on-site water quality inspections and water sampling (approximately one day per week).
- Analyse water quality data and prepare drinking water quality reports.
- Monitor and assess water quality parameters, including blue-green algae and other water quality risks.
- Support compliance with Safe Drinking Water requirements and Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
- Undertake water quality risk assessments and contribute to the development of risk management systems.
- Deliver projects relating to water quality, water resources, catchment management, environmental management, and regulatory compliance.
- Support implementation of operational system improvements relating to drinking water compliance, strategy, and product quality management.
- Assist in developing monitoring programmes, performance metrics, and data-driven insights to support business and operational decisions.
- Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve water quality objectives.
- Contribute to system improvement initiatives and change management processes across the organisation.
What you'll need to succeed
Skills & Experience
- Experience in water quality assessment, drinking water services, environmental management, water treatment, catchment management, or natural resource management.
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems, Safe Drinking Water requirements, and/or Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
- Understanding of blue-green algae management, water quality compliance, and risk management systems.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, including proficiency in Excel.
- Experience delivering projects and coordinating multiple priorities.
- Ability to investigate issues, solve problems, and provide practical solutions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Qualifications
- Qualification in Science, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Engineering, or a related discipline; or
- Demonstrated experience in water quality assessment, water treatment processes, natural resource management, or catchment management.
