Lead HSEQ where it matters, close to the people, projects and operational risk.
Must be an Australian Citizen with the ability to obtain AGSVA clearance. Relocation to Canberra from other Australian States will be considered, with renumeration offered for the perfect candidate.
This is a genuinely hands-on HSEQ leadership opportunity for an experienced safety professional who knows how to operate in a construction, mechanical services, engineering, manufacturing or trades-based environment.

Working in a high-risk operational setting, you will lead and develop a small HSEQ team while acting as a trusted technical adviser to operational leaders. This is not a purely corporate, systems-focused HSEQ role. You will need to be comfortable engaging with people on site, challenging where required and translating legislation, standards and HSEQ requirements into practical solutions that work in the real world.

You'll take a lead role across WHS, environmental compliance, incident management, risk, training, auditing and continuous improvement, while supporting the organisation's integrated management system.

What you'll be doing

Lead, coach and develop a team of HSEQ Coordinators Provide practical HSEQ advice across construction and service operations Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions Support and improve the Integrated Management System Contribute to internal, external and certification audits Monitor HSEQ performance and provide meaningful reporting to leadership Coach managers and supervisors on their HSEQ responsibilities Review high-risk construction activities, SWMS and subcontractor documentation Deliver practical HSEQ training and inductions Support compliance across ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001

Who we're looking for
You'll be an experienced HSEQ Manager or Senior HSEQ Advisor ready to step up, with credibility gained in an operational, high-risk environment.

Ideally, you'll bring experience across:

Construction, engineering, mechanical services, manufacturing or trade environment WHS legislation across NSW and/or the ACT High-risk construction activities and operational safety Incident investigation and root cause analysis ISO-certified management systems Influencing operational leaders and frontline teams Coaching or developing HSEQ/safety professionals

Importantly, we're looking for someone with presence. You'll be able to build strong relationships while still being confident enough to challenge, hold your ground and provide clear technical HSEQ advice when it counts.

Your client briefing specifically identified strong leadership, confidence, SME capability and the ability to stand their ground as important attributes. It also indicates they are open to someone stepping up rather than requiring an established manager.

Essential requirements

Diploma of Work Health & Safety or higher White Card Current driving licence Minimum five years' experience as a Senior HSEQ Advisor or HSEQ Manager Australian citizenship and ability to hold an AGSVA security clearance

The client also specifically requires practical knowledge of construction risks, including working at heights, confined spaces, electrical works and hot works.
