Opportunity for an experienced Governance Officer to join a large, forward-thinking local government organisation is one of the fastest growing regions in Queensland, delivering a wide range of essential services to a diverse and dynamic community. Join on an initial 3-month contract with the possibility of an extension.
Your new role
As Governance Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the organisation’s governance framework and ensuring compliance with legislative and corporate requirements.
Working within a central governance team, you will:
Manage the development, review and processing of policies, procedures and administrative directives, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s governance framework
Maintain governance registers, document control systems and associated records to support transparency and compliance
Provide advice on governance matters and monitor legislative changes, identifying impacts and supporting implementation across the organisation
Coordinate Right to Information (RTI), Information Privacy (IP) requests and external legislative reporting requirements
Support Public Interest Disclosure (PID) processes, including complaint management, risk assessments and reporting
Provide advice on conflicts of interest and maintain relevant registers
Contribute to governance improvement initiatives and broader organisational projects
This is a varied role, offering exposure across multiple governance streams including compliance, privacy, policy and complaints management.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful, you will bring governance experience along with strong legislative interpretation skills and attention to detail.
You will demonstrate:
Experience in governance, policy development, compliance or a related discipline (local government experience highly regarded)
Strong ability to interpret and apply legislation, particularly in a public sector environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with a focus on continuous improvement
High level organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems
Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team
