Your new role

As an APS6 Governance Officer, you will play a key role in managing Freedom of Information requests and supporting broader privacy and governance activities. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Responding to FOI requests in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth).
  • Drafting FOI decisions, providing high-quality advice, and redacting sensitive information.
  • Ensuring statutory deadlines are met and compliance obligations are maintained.
  • Providing guidance and support to decision-makers on FOI legislation, policies and processes.
  • Managing FOI reporting and related administrative activities.
  • Supporting privacy casework, complaints handling, and the review and development of policies and procedures.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Preparing briefs, executive reports, ministerial correspondence and committee papers.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
  • APS experience at the APS6 level managing FOI requests and/or a strong understanding of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build productive working relationships.
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail and strong analytical capabilities.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
