Venue Manager – Surly's Surry Hills

Surly's Surry Hills is one of Sydney's most recognisable American-inspired hospitality venues, renowned for authentic BBQ, craft beer, premium whiskey, live sport and genuine hospitality.

As a growing hospitality group, we're entering an exciting new phase and are looking for an experienced Venue Manager to lead one of our flagship venues.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a venue with an established reputation, loyal customer base and enormous potential for continued growth. You'll work closely with our leadership team while having the autonomy to lead your team, drive commercial performance and make a genuine impact on the future of the business.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Group General Manager, you'll be responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance and commercial success of Surly's Surry Hills.

This is far more than simply managing shifts. We're looking for someone who takes ownership, leads from the front and is passionate about developing people, driving results and delivering exceptional hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

As Venue Manager you will:

• Lead, coach and develop a high-performing front of house team.
• Deliver exceptional guest experiences and maintain outstanding service standards.
• Drive venue sales, profitability and labour performance.
• Recruit, train and mentor supervisors and future leaders.
• Build a positive, accountable and engaged team culture.
• Oversee day-to-day venue operations and presentation.
• Identify opportunities to increase revenue through events, functions and local marketing initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with our kitchen, marketing and senior leadership teams.
• Ensure compliance with licensing, RSA and company policies.

About You

You'll be an experienced hospitality leader who:

• Has previous experience managing a busy hospitality venue.
• Leads with integrity, professionalism and accountability.
• Has a strong commercial mindset and understands labour, costs and profitability.
• Is an exceptional communicator who proactively keeps people informed.
• Enjoys mentoring and developing teams.
• Takes ownership and follows through.
• Leads from the floor and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves.
• Thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
• Essential Requirements
• Previous Venue Manager or senior hospitality management experience.
• Current NSW RSA competency.
• NSW Approved Manager (or willingness to obtain).
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Demonstrated experience managing labour, service standards and operational performance.
