Tax Director APAC

Job description

Your new company

You will be joining a leading international bank with a strong global presence and growing operations across APAC. The organisation provides a broad range of capital markets, corporate banking, investment banking and advisory services to institutional, corporate and government clients. This role sits within the regional Taxation team and will play a key part in supporting compliance, governance and strategic tax advisory matters across multiple jurisdictions.

Your new role

Reporting to the Head of Tax for Europe and Asia Pacific, you will manage tax compliance and support tax advisory activity across Australia, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and mainland China. You will act as a key APAC tax contact, partnering with teams in the UK and Toronto as well as regional stakeholders across Finance, Legal, Operations and the business.

  • Managing APAC tax compliance obligations across direct and indirect tax, including Australian, Singaporean, Japanese and Hong Kong tax matters.
  • Overseeing tax reporting, returns, instalment payments, BAS, GST, FBT, statutory audit requirements and related regulatory obligations.
  • Supporting strategic tax advisory work for business expansion, new products, cross-border lending and capital markets activity across APAC.
  • Partnering with UK and Toronto Tax teams to ensure alignment of global tax strategy, compliance standards and risk management frameworks.
  • Maintaining effective tax governance, controls, policies and procedures across the APAC region.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be an experienced senior tax professional with strong technical capability, commercial judgement and the confidence to operate autonomously in a regional role. Ideally, you will bring:
  • Australian CA and/or CTA qualification, or legal qualification with relevant accounting, finance or tax experience.
  • At least five years’ industry tax experience, ideally within banking, financial services or a multinational environment.
  • Strong Australian tax knowledge, including direct and indirect tax, GST.
  • Proven experience managing cross-border tax compliance and tax risk across complex jurisdictions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical tax matters into practical business advice.
  • A proactive, disciplined and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and partner effectively across regions.

What you'll get in return

This is a rare opportunity to take on a senior regional tax role with a leading global banking group during a period of continued APAC growth. You will gain broad exposure across capital markets, corporate banking and investment banking, working with highly experienced international tax teams and senior business stakeholders. The role is offered as a 12-month fixed term contract, based in the Sydney office with some WFH flexibility.
