Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position is located in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the lymphoma and upper gastro-intestinal service and contribute to the breast cancer radiation oncology service at Blacktown Hospital The successful applicant will also provide support to the lymphoma and upper GI radiation oncology service at Westmead Hospital as part of a networked service.
The Radiation Oncology Network (RON) in WSLHD covers both Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals, with outpatient services at the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre and Blacktown Oncology and Haematology Centre, respectively. Radiation oncologists admit patients at both hospitals. Close to 2,000 courses of radiation treatment are delivered each year across the two hospitals with Varian TrueBeams using Eclipse as the planning system and ARIA as the cancer record. The full spectrum of radiation treatment options is offered in the Network, including orthovoltage treatments, brachytherapy, total body irradiation and paediatrics. Stereotactic body and brain as well as motion-management techniques are available.
There are 13 permanent staff specialists who specialize in the management of different tumours, with at least two covering almost all tumour groups. All participate on the on-call roster. The Network has an active teaching and training program with 6 accredited and 3 un-accredited trainees during the 2026 academic year as well as 2 postgraduate fellows. A core activity of our Network is a radiation oncology tumour stream quality assurance program which brings together radiation oncologists, radiation oncology medical physicists and radiation therapists and forms the functional unit of quality improvement activities.
The Radiation Oncology Network is a clinical department of the WSLHD Cancer Service across the two hospitals, which also includes the departments of medical oncology, haematology and bone marrow transplant, surgical oncology, palliative care, familial cancer and psycho oncology. Multidisciplinary tumour programs are a foundation of WSLHD Cancer Services.
Selection Criteria
.Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award- Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license.
.Sound clinical knowledge in radiation oncology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position, with a particular focus on the management of hematological and gastro-intestinal malignancies.
.Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
