Summary

Our client Chuti Food City is a well-established Sri Lankan hospitality business in Narre Warren South, offering authentic Sri Lankan and South Asian groceries, specialty products and freshly prepared traditional meals. Our client is seeking to add a Cook to its team to prepare and cook quality dishes, including rice and curry, biryani and other traditional meal offerings.

The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Prepare and cook a range of Sri Lankan and South Asian dishes to established standards.
• Prepare ingredients including vegetables, meats, spices and other components required for daily meal production.
• Season food appropriately during preparation and cooking to maintain authentic flavours and consistent quality.
• Operate ovens, grills, stovetops and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is cooked correctly and consistently.
• Examine ingredients and food products to ensure freshness, quality and suitability before use.
• Portion and present prepared meals attractively and consistently according to serving requirements.
• Prepare traditional dishes including rice and curry, biryani and other Sri Lankan meal offerings.
• Store ingredients and prepared foods safely within appropriate temperature-controlled facilities.
• Prepare meals to accommodate special dietary requirements where requested and operationally appropriate.
• Maintain clean and hygienic food preparation areas, equipment, utensils and kitchen workstations.
• Follow established food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
• Assist with estimating ingredient quantities and food requirements for daily preparation and service.
• Work efficiently with other kitchen and retail staff during busy food preparation and service periods.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:

• AQF Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent relevant cookery qualification is required for this position.
• A minimum of 12 months' recent, directly relevant commercial cooking experience in the same or comparable role is required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of commercial food preparation, cooking techniques, ingredient handling and appropriate portion control is essential.
• Sound understanding of food safety, kitchen hygiene, temperature control and safe food storage practices is required.
• Ability to prepare consistent, high-quality meals while following established recipes, preparation methods and presentation standards is essential.
• Experience preparing Sri Lankan, South Asian or similarly diverse traditional cuisine would be highly regarded for this position.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain quality standards during busy preparation and service periods is required.
• Strong teamwork, reliability, time management and communication skills are required within a busy food retail environment.
