Communications Advisor

Job description

Your new company

This state government department plays a critical role in delivering large-scale infrastructure programs that support growing communities across Queensland. With a strong pipeline of transport and civil projects, the organisation is focused on improving connectivity, safety, and long-term sustainability outcomes.

This is a contract opportunity running from 10 August 2026 through to 9 August 2029, offering stability and the chance to contribute to high-profile public infrastructure initiatives.

Your new role

As an AO5 Communications Advisor, you will be responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of communication and engagement activities across major infrastructure projects.
Working closely with project teams and senior stakeholders, you will provide practical advice on communication strategies, help manage risks and issues, and ensure consistent and effective messaging across a variety of audiences.

Your role will involve building strong relationships across government, industry partners, and the community, while coordinating engagement activities and ensuring communication plans are executed effectively. You will also play a key role in supporting governance processes and ensuring compliance with relevant frameworks and standards.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Experience delivering communications or community engagement within complex project environments
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate across diverse groups
  • Capability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced setting
  • Proven experience supporting communication strategies, media liaison, and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of correspondence and briefing materials
  • An understanding of governance, compliance, and working within structured frameworks
You will also bring experience working on infrastructure, transport, or construction-related projects, or within similarly complex environments.

While not essential, tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field will be highly regarded, along with formal engagement or communications certifications.

What you'll get in return

You will secure a long-term contract opportunity within a reputable state government environment, offering:

  • The chance to contribute to major infrastructure projects that have a lasting impact on communities
  • Exposure to complex, high-value programs and senior stakeholder environments
  • A supportive and collaborative team culture
  • Competitive hourly rates and long-term contract stability
