Summary

Our client Telconnex Pty Ltd is a privately owned Australian telecommunications and civil construction company servicing projects throughout Victoria. Our client is seeking to add a Civil Engineering Technician to support telecommunications infrastructure and civil works, including underground construction, directional drilling, trenching, pit and pipe installations, cable infrastructure, site inspections, technical reporting and project delivery across telecommunications network projects.

The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist with civil engineering activities supporting telecommunications infrastructure and underground construction projects.
• Interpret site drawings, technical plans, specifications and work instructions for civil construction activities.
• Assist with site surveys, measurements and marking out construction areas before works commence.
• Prepare sketches, measurements, tabulations and technical information to support civil engineering project requirements.
• Conduct site inspections and monitor works for compliance with specifications, standards and safety requirements.
• Perform quality checks on construction materials, pipes and other components used during civil works.
• Collect, record and analyse site data to support technical assessments and project reporting requirements.
• Assist with estimating materials, quantities and costs required for telecommunications and civil construction projects.
• Coordinate trenching, excavation, grading and earthmoving activities in accordance with project specifications.
• Support horizontal directional drilling operations and verify underground bore paths for telecommunications infrastructure installations.
• Locate underground services and infrastructure to minimise risks of asset strikes during excavation activities.
• Inspect completed civil works to confirm compliance with relevant specifications, regulations and contractual requirements.
• Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, subcontractors and site crews to support efficient project delivery.
• Monitor equipment condition, identify technical issues and assist with organising required maintenance or repairs.
• Maintain accurate site records, technical documentation and reports relating to civil construction and telecommunications works.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:

• A relevant Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree or higher qualification in civil engineering or a closely related discipline.
• At least one to two years of recent, directly relevant experience in a Civil Engineering Technician or comparable role.
• Demonstrated experience interpreting civil engineering drawings, site plans, technical specifications and construction work instructions accurately.
• Practical knowledge of civil construction activities including excavation, trenching, underground services, pit installations and directional drilling.
• Ability to conduct site inspections, collect technical data and monitor construction works against specifications and required standards.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when preparing measurements, technical records, reports, calculations and project documentation.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and technical skills when identifying site issues, construction risks and appropriate practical solutions.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills for coordinating effectively with supervisors, engineers, subcontractors, clients and project personnel.
