Duties:
• Configuring, integrating and commissioning telecommunications network infrastructure, equipment and systems in accordance with project specifications and operational requirements.
• Installing, testing and maintaining telecommunications transmission systems, including wireless communication networks, optical fibre infrastructure, NBN technologies and associated telecommunications equipment.
• Conducting network performance monitoring and technical analysis to identify faults, bottlenecks and service degradation issues and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
• Performing acceptance testing, commissioning activities and quality assurance procedures including OTDR testing, SDH testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to verify network performance and compliance with engineering standards.
• Diagnosing and rectifying faults affecting telecommunications services and network infrastructure to minimise service disruptions and maintain network reliability.
• Preparing technical documentation, engineering reports, commissioning records, equipment data sheets and site completion reports for telecommunications projects.
• Reviewing engineering drawings, technical specifications and installation requirements to ensure telecommunications systems are deployed in accordance with design standards.
• Liaising with subcontractors and clients regarding technical requirements, installation progress and engineering solutions.
• Assisting in the planning and implementation of network upgrades, infrastructure expansion projects and telecommunications system enhancements.
• Monitoring network operations and evaluating system performance to identify opportunities for optimisation, increased efficiency and improved service delivery.
• Coordinating installation and commissioning activities on telecommunications sites while ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, quality standards and project schedules.
• Providing technical support during network restoration activities and assisting in the resolution of complex telecommunications network faults and outages.
• Evaluating telecommunications technologies, equipment and operational requirements and providing recommendations for infrastructure improvements and network performance enhancement. Skills and Experience:
• A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• A minimum of three years of recent, relevant experience in telecommunications field engineering, including the installation, commissioning, testing, maintenance and optimisation of network infrastructure.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with optical fibre infrastructure, wireless communication networks, NBN technologies and IP networking.
• Proven experience with SDH optical fibre transmission systems, OTDR testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
• Practical experience configuring, commissioning and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches and associated telecommunications equipment.
• Strong capability in network performance monitoring, fault diagnosis, corrective maintenance, service restoration and the resolution of telecommunications outages.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications and to prepare commissioning records, testing reports, equipment data sheets and site completion reports.
• Experience coordinating site installation and commissioning activities and liaising with clients, subcontractors and multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, quality assurance procedures and engineering standards applicable to telecommunications sites.
• Strong analytical, technical problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet project schedules.
