Job description

MedicalJobsAustralia.com Job Description:

Supporting the leadership of a more connected future of care

Partner directly with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team

Help shape the future of healthcare and aged care in Australia

Join a team driven by compassion, purpose and a commitment to caring for others

Sydney or Melbourne based

St Vincent's has been a leader in Australia's health and aged care landscape for more than 165 years. Since our founders, the Sisters of Charity, opened our first hospital in 1857, our services and people have been behind some of Australia's most important medical breakthroughs. Today, as we expand care beyond hospital walls and create more connected models of care, St Vincent's is helping shape a better, fairer health and aged care system.

We are looking for a special kind of person - a St Vincent's kind of person. Someone who combines sharp thinking, good judgement and deep care for others.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO and based in Melbourne or Sydney, we are seeking an exceptional Chief of Staff to partner with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) during a pivotal period of transformation and growth.

As a trusted adviser to the national CEO, the Chief of Staff helps translate strategic ambition into aligned decisions, effective governance and enterprise action.

The role combines strategic advice, executive governance, CEO communications, enterprise issue resolution and the leadership of cross-portfolio priorities where accountabilities are complex or progress needs acceleration.

You will connect diverse perspectives, synthesise complex information, identify emerging opportunities and risks, and help ensure the organisation maintains focus on what matters most.

Key Responsibilities

Key accountabilities include:

Lead the Office of the CEO, overseeing the governance, priorities, information flows and executive support mechanisms that enable the CEO to focus on the matters of greatest strategic importance.

Partner with the CEO and ELT to strengthen executive decision-making, operating rhythm and enterprise delivery.

Lead the development and coordination of Board Portfolio Reports and executive papers, ensuring clarity, quality and alignment with organisational priorities.

Provide strategic analysis, advice and recommendations on material organisational matters.

Support CEO communications and engagements that connect Mission, strategy, people and performance.

Identify and elevate material issues, opportunities and risks through enterprise-wide scanning, analysis and sense-making.

Facilitate major enterprise projects, transformation initiatives and cross-portfolio programs from concept through to completion.

About You

You are a credible executive adviser with exceptional judgement, strategic thinking and the ability to build trust across an organisation.

You thrive in complex and ambiguous environments, quickly identifying what matters most and translating complexity into clear advice, decisions and action. You bring strong judgement, situational awareness and an ability to influence outcomes without formal authority.

You bring humility, discretion and a strong commitment to serving a purpose larger than yourself.

It is anticipated you will bring:

Experience working closely with CEOs, executive leaders, Boards or senior governance forums.

Exceptional written communication skills, including drafting and reviewing Board, Committee and executive papers.

Strong judgement, analytical thinking and the ability to synthesis complex cross-portfolio information.

Experience supporting strategic initiatives, enterprise transformation or major enterprise programs.

Strong commercial and financial literacy.

Emotional intelligence, diplomacy and comfort operating at pace in ambiguous environments.

Experience in health, aged care, not-for-profit or Mission-driven organisations will be highly regarded.

Why Join St Vincent's?

At St Vincent's, our people are inspired by a shared commitment to Compassion, Justice, Integrity and Excellence. We are building a better and fairer health and aged care system and believe our greatest strength lies in our people.

You will join an organisation that:

Makes a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, residents and communities.

Supports innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Encourages authentic leadership and inclusivity.

Offers the opportunity to work alongside some of Australia's most respected healthcare and executive leaders.

Provides flexibility and the chance to make a significant impact at an enterprise level.

Pre-Employment Checks

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role-required pre-employment checks, including relevant immunisations.

Equal Opportunity

We celebrate diversity and inclusion and are committed to equal employment opportunity for everyone.
