Guru Kripa 13 Pty Ltd is seeking a passionate and experienced Chef to join its professional kitchen team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing kitchen operations and ensuring the consistent preparation and presentation of authentic Indian cuisine while maintaining exceptional standards of quality, hygiene and customer satisfaction. The successful applicant will possess strong culinary skills, sound knowledge of traditional Indian cooking techniques, menu planning, food safety requirements, inventory management and kitchen supervision. The role requires the ability to perform efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen while maintaining consistency in flavour, presentation and service standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years' relevant full-time experience as a Chef.
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality or a closely related qualification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial kitchen operations, food safety and HACCP principles.

In this role, your main responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and cook a wide variety of authentic Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori specialties, biryanis, breads, appetisers, vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals.
  • Prepare and marinate meats, poultry, seafood and vegetables using traditional Indian herbs, spices and cooking techniques.
  • Operate and maintain tandoor ovens and other commercial kitchen equipment while ensuring food quality, consistency and safety.
  • Plan menus and develop seasonal specials while preserving the authenticity of Indian cuisine and responding to customer preferences.
  • Standardise recipes and cooking procedures to maintain consistency in flavour, presentation and portion control.
  • Monitor inventory levels, order food supplies and maintain stock records while minimising food wastage and controlling food costs.
  • Supervise, train and support cooks and kitchen assistants in food preparation techniques, hygiene practices and kitchen procedures.
  • Ensure full compliance with Food Safety Standards, HACCP requirements, workplace health and safety policies and kitchen hygiene regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, storage areas, cool rooms and equipment.
  • Modify recipes and menu items to accommodate customers with dietary requirements, allergies and vegetarian preferences.
  • Assist management with kitchen rostering, workflow planning and continuous improvement of kitchen operations.

Skills

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Excellent culinary skills with extensive knowledge of authentic Indian cuisine.
  • Strong understanding of traditional Indian spices, ingredients, tandoori cooking techniques and regional cooking methods.
  • Experience in menu planning, recipe development and food presentation.
  • Sound knowledge of food costing, stock control and inventory management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of HACCP, food safety legislation and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication and team management skills.
  • A genuine passion for producing high-quality food and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
