As a Category Buyer, you will play a key role in managing product categories, stock availability, supplier relationships, and pricing strategies to ensure the effective supply of goods across a network of remote retail stores.
Working within a collaborative procurement and merchandise team, you'll contribute to delivering value, efficiency, and service excellence while supporting community needs and business outcomes.
Your new role
As Category Buyer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of assigned product categories.
In this role, you will:
- Manage stock levels, ranging strategies, pricing, and category performance across multiple store locations
- Review orders, deliveries, invoices, and supplier performance to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Source products and negotiate pricing, terms, and supply arrangements with vendors
- Monitor margins, sales performance, and seasonal trends to maximise profitability and product viability
- Maintain accurate product and inventory data, including stock adjustments, transfers, and pricing updates
- Collaborate with store managers and operational teams to meet customer and community needs
- Analyse category performance, slow-moving stock, and promotional outcomes to drive continuous improvement.
- Support procurement and supply chain initiatives while maintaining strong supplier relationships
- Prepare reports, forecasts, and recommendations to support business decision-making
- Travel to remote locations as required to support procurement and stock management activities
What you'll need to succeed
You will bring experience in buying, category management, procurement, or retail merchandise planning, alongside strong commercial and analytical skills.
Key strengths include:
- Previous experience in a retail buying, category management, procurement, or inventory-focused role
- Strong understanding of stock management, ranging, pricing, and margin control
- Experience working with inventory management systems and Microsoft Excel
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to analyse sales and category performance data
- Excellent stakeholder and supplier relationship management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a cross-cultural and geographically dispersed team
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Willingness and ability to travel to remote communities as required
