Your new company

A Government department dedicated to moving and connecting people, places, goods and services – safely, efficiently and effectively – is seeking a high-performing and innovative Project Engagement Advisor to join their small and agile team. This is a 2-year contract, based in Townsville, offering the opportunity to contribute to high-profile infrastructure projects across Far North Queensland.

Your new role

In the role of Project Engagement Advisor, you will provide strategic communication services to technical and professional staff across community engagement, issues management and stakeholder relationship management.

You will also be responsible for:
  • Coordinating community engagement activities for major projects, including providing project managers with ongoing strategic communications advice, and developing and implementing communication strategies
  • Developing strategies for stakeholder management and consulting with a wide range of interest groups
  • Leading landholder engagement and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders
  • Acting as a key liaison for community and stakeholder enquiries
  • Managing issues and providing strategic advice to protect and enhance project outcomes
  • Acting as a single point of contact for project teams across engagement and communications matters
  • Managing the preparation of communication materials, including ministerial and executive correspondence and stakeholder communications
  • Supporting engagement activities that align with regional and departmental objectives
  • Complying with the WH&S Act, Regulations and Department Policy
  • Demonstrating the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

What you'll need to succeed

  • We are seeking an insightful individual with experience in a strategic communication or stakeholder engagement role, preferably within government or infrastructure environments, as this is critical to your success.
  • Demonstrated experience managing ministerial and executive correspondence, with the ability to deliver customer-focused outcomes
  • Strong understanding of media, government and regional operations, including the ability to develop informed media and communication responses
  • Proven ability to apply issues and reputation management principles and provide well-considered strategic advice
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information in a clear and non-technical manner
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to gather insights, identify opportunities for improvement, and embrace innovation
  • Adaptability and resilience when working in dynamic and evolving environments
  • Strong knowledge of community engagement practices, with the ability to provide high-level advice to regional management
