Your new role
Seeking an experienced Payroll Systems Specialist / Business Support Analyst to support a critical People Systems and Payroll Services function. This is a high-impact role focused on maintaining and enhancing business-critical payroll tools and processes in a complex, high-volume environment. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and sustainability of payroll systems by maintaining and improving a large suite of tools used to support payroll operations. The role involves modernising legacy systems, delivering enhancements, and providing expert advice across payroll processes, data analysis, and reporting.

Maintaining and enhancing a suite of Excel, VBA, and Access-based payroll tools

Updating and redesigning payroll calculators (approx. 190 tools) to ensure accuracy and compliance

Reviewing and modernising legacy databases and systems to improve performance and reduce risk

Supporting payroll operations through manual calculations and specialist requirements

Providing data analysis, reporting, and ad hoc advice to support decision-making

Assisting with audit, assurance, and documentation uplift

Supporting policy changes, system reforms, and continuous improvement initiatives

Enabling knowledge transfer and capability uplift across the business

  What you'll need to succeed     

Strong experience working with payroll systems, tools, and processes

Advanced skills in Excel (including VBA) and Microsoft Access

Experience in data analysis, reporting, and business process improvement

Understanding of compliance, audit, and governance requirements

Ability to manage and improve complex legacy systems and toolsets

Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and data integrity

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Exposure to Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

Experience in large-scale government or high-volume service environments
