Our client, Everfresh Produce Group Pty Ltd, is a dynamic fresh produce wholesaler based at Sydney Markets, Flemington. The company specialises in sourcing, grading, storing and supplying premium-quality fresh fruit and vegetables to retailers, food service businesses and wholesale customers. An exciting opportunity exists for a skilled and experienced Operations Manager – Quality to plan, organise, direct, control and coordinate quality management systems and operational processes across the business. Reporting to senior management, you will be responsible for ensuring quality standards are consistently achieved throughout procurement, receival, storage, handling, packing and distribution operations while driving continuous improvement initiatives. This position is ideally suited to a motivated professional with strong operational management experience in the fresh produce, food distribution or agricultural sector and a passion for quality, compliance and operational excellence.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant qualification equivalent to an Australian Bachelor's degree or higher in Quality Management, Food Science, Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or a related discipline.
• At least one year of relevant work experience in a similar role.
• At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Plan, coordinate and oversee daily operational activities to ensure fresh produce quality is maintained throughout receiving, storage, handling and distribution.
• Develop, implement and maintain operational quality management systems, policies and procedures across the business.
• Monitor product quality from supplier delivery through to customer dispatch, ensuring compliance with customer specifications and company standards.
• Establish and monitor quality assurance programs for produce inspection, grading, storage conditions and product handling.
• Ensure compliance with relevant food safety legislation, HACCP principles, Freshcare requirements and other applicable industry standards.
• Coordinate internal quality audits and assist with external audits, certifications and regulatory inspections.
• Investigate quality incidents, customer complaints and non-conformance issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Work closely with procurement, warehouse and logistics teams to improve operational efficiency while maintaining product quality.
• Develop procedures to minimise product damage, spoilage and waste throughout the supply chain.
• Monitor inventory rotation, cold chain management and storage practices to maximise product shelf life.
• Analyse operational and quality performance data and prepare reports for senior management.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, quality outcomes and operational efficiency.
• Develop traceability systems and coordinate product recall procedures where required.
• Train and mentor operational staff on quality standards, food safety requirements and best handling practices.
• Liaise with growers, suppliers and customers to resolve quality issues and maintain strong business relationships.
• Promote a culture of quality, compliance, workplace safety and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.

To be considered for this role you must have:

• Demonstrated experience managing operations and quality systems within the fresh produce, food processing, food distribution or agricultural industry.
• Strong knowledge of food safety legislation, HACCP, Freshcare and quality management systems.
• Sound understanding of fresh produce handling, storage, grading and distribution practices.
• Excellent leadership, organisational and people management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple operational priorities in a fast-paced wholesale market environment.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and achieving operational excellence.
