Your new company

Hays is proud to partner with a well-established and purpose-driven organisation seeking a Merchandise Buying Assistant to join their Cairns Office on a temporary contract. This role will support a busy buying team, assisting with merchandising, stock management, supplier coordination, and administrative tasks that contribute to maximising sales and operational performance.

Your new role

Working closely with Category Buyers and the wider Merchandise team, you will provide essential administrative and analytical support across a range of product portfolios.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Maintaining product and pricing data within internal systems
  • Creating and managing product codes, stock adjustments and transfers
  • Supporting stock management to meet customer demand
  • Assisting with product performance analysis and reporting
  • Monitoring slow-moving stock and promotional activity
  • Reconciling orders, deliveries and supplier invoices
  • Coordinating special orders and community event requests
  • Building strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Assisting with marketing and merchandise initiatives
  • Resolving store, customer and distribution-related queries

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Previous administration experience, ideally within retail, purchasing, procurement, merchandising or supply chain environments
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs
  • Strong numerical aptitude and high attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience working across multiple sites or branches will be highly regarded
  • The ability to learn new systems quickly, with experience using ERP, retail or stock management systems advantageous
