Maintenance Fitter – South Nowra, NSW
Full-Time Permanent Opportunity | Food Manufacturing | Up to $40/hr base rate + shift loading + Super
Hays are currently partnering with a well-established food manufacturing business in South Nowra to recruit an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join their Engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a trade-qualified fitter who enjoys a hands-on role, working across preventative maintenance, breakdown response, equipment upgrades and continuous improvement projects within a fast-paced production environment.
About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will join a close-knit maintenance team consisting of Maintenance Fitters and a Maintenance Manager who oversees day-to-day operations.
Working across rotating shifts, you'll play a key role in ensuring production equipment operates safely and efficiently while supporting the installation and commissioning of a new manufacturing line.
Hours:
- Full-time permanent position
- 37.5 hours per week
- Rotating shifts:
- 6:00am – 2:00pm
- 11:00am – 7:00pm
- Flexibility to work both shifts is essential, although afternoon-focused arrangements may be considered following successful training.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out preventative and scheduled maintenance on manufacturing equipment
- Respond to machinery breakdowns, faults, jams and equipment failures
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems to minimise downtime
- Assist with machinery installations, upgrades and improvement projects
- Support the commissioning of a new gummies production line
- Ensure machinery and components meet Australian safety standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
- Promote and follow all workplace safety, GMP and food safety procedures
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter or Maintenance Fitter
- Previous experience working within a manufacturing environment
- Strong fault-finding and breakdown maintenance capability
- Experience with preventative maintenance programmes
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement
Highly Desirable
- Food manufacturing experience
- Understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
- Exposure to food safety and quality systems
- Experience working with automated production equipment
- Experience commissioning or installing new machinery
