POSITION DETAILS
Position Title: Construction Project Manager
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Melbourne, Victoria
Salary Package: $100,000 - $120,000 per annum (based on qualifications and experience), plus superannuation
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Overall management and coordination of construction projects from commencement through to completion
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant building codes, safety standards, and legal requirements
- Managing project budgets, costs, and financial performance
- Preparing and monitoring project timelines and schedules
- Supervising and coordinating subcontractors and construction teams on site
- Liaising with clients, architects, engineers, and regulatory authorities
- Quality assurance and defect management
- Site safety management and WorkSafe compliance
- Preparation of progress reports and project documentation
- Risk management and problem-solving to meet project objectives
- Managing procurement and supplier relationships
- Performance management of construction teams
ROPE ACCESS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Some projects require work at height using industrial rope access methods (for example façade inspection, glazing, cladding, sealing and building maintenance). In addition to the responsibilities above, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Planning, scheduling and coordinating rope access works as part of overall project delivery
- Preparing and reviewing Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), job safety analyses and rope access work plans
- Developing and verifying site-specific rescue plans, and ensuring rescue capability is in place before any rope access work commences
- Assessing anchor points and fall protection systems, and confirming anchor certification and inspection records are current
- Ensuring rope access work complies with AS/NZS 4488 (Industrial rope access systems), AS/NZS 1891 (Industrial fall-arrest systems and devices) and the OHS Regulations 2017 (Vic) prevention of falls requirements
- Verifying that rope access technicians hold current certifications at the appropriate level and that teams are supervised by a suitably qualified Level 3 technician
- Overseeing the inspection, maintenance, recording and retirement of rope access and height safety equipment
- Managing exclusion zones, drop-zone controls and public protection around work at height
- Monitoring weather and site conditions and suspending rope access work when conditions are unsafe
- Undertaking rope access work personally where required, including inspections, defect assessments and quality checks on façades and structures
- Coordinating rope access subcontractors and specialist providers, including procurement, scope and safety performance
- Reporting, investigating and following up on rope access incidents, near misses and hazards
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Minimum 5 years of construction project management experience
- Proven track record in successfully delivering construction projects on time and within budget
- Strong knowledge of building codes, Australian Standards, and construction regulations
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Project Management or Construction Management (or equivalent)
- Current White Card (Construction Induction Training Card) or ability to obtain within 2 weeks
- Current driver's license
- Excellence in verbal and written communication skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and construction management software
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities
- Commitment to workplace health and safety
- Current industrial rope access certification (IRATA or ARAA), minimum Level 2, with logged hours
- Current Work Safely at Heights training (RIIWHS204E or equivalent)
- Current First Aid certificate (HLTAID011 Provide First Aid or equivalent)
- Sound working knowledge of AS/NZS 4488, AS/NZS 1891 and Victorian prevention of falls requirements
- Experience planning rope access rescue and preparing work-at-height SWMS
- Physical fitness and the ability to work safely at height in varying conditions
- Valid working rights in Australia (as required by Australian employment law)
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Prince2 certification
- Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM)
- Experience in workplace health and safety management
- IRATA or ARAA Level 3 rope access certification (supervisor level)
- Experience managing façade, high-rise or building maintenance projects using rope access methods
- Anchor and height safety system inspection qualifications
- Experience managing projects valued over $10 million
