Sushi Lovers Rabybay Japanese Restaurant, operated by Zesty Food Pty Ltd, is located in the Raby Bay Harbour precinct in Cleveland, Queensland.

We are a Japanese restaurant committed to providing fresh, high-quality Japanese cuisine and excellent customer service.

We are currently seeking a skilled, enthusiastic and motivated full-time Chef to join our kitchen team.

This is a hands-on position offering the opportunity to contribute to menu development, maintain high culinary standards and work within a friendly and supportive team.

The Role

As a Chef, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality Japanese dishes, planning menus, maintaining kitchen standards and supporting the efficient daily operations of our kitchen.

We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for Japanese cuisine, strong culinary skills and the ability to work effectively in a busy restaurant environment.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and develop menus, including Japanese dishes and seasonal specials. Prepare, cook and present a variety of Japanese dishes to consistently high standards. Monitor food quality, taste, portion sizes and presentation. Estimate food requirements, food costs and labour costs. Order ingredients and kitchen supplies, monitor stock levels and minimise food waste. Ensure proper storage, handling and rotation of food products. Maintain compliance with Australian food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements. Develop and maintain standard recipes, cooking procedures and food presentation standards. Coordinate kitchen activities to ensure efficient and timely food preparation. Train, supervise and guide kitchen staff in cooking techniques, food preparation and safe food handling. Work closely with restaurant management and other team members to maintain smooth daily operations. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment, food preparation areas and storage facilities. Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

A relevant AQF Diploma or higher qualification in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality or a related culinary discipline, together with at least one year of relevant professional experience; or At least three years of relevant professional Chef experience in lieu of formal qualifications. Sound knowledge of Japanese cuisine, ingredients, cooking techniques and food presentation. Demonstrated experience in preparing and cooking restaurant-quality meals. Good understanding of Australian food safety and hygiene standards. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced commercial kitchen. Good communication skills and a positive, reliable attitude. Ability to maintain food quality, manage kitchen stock and support kitchen operations. Previous experience in a Japanese restaurant will be highly regarded.
