Position: Chef

Salary: $77,000 - $80,000 per annum plus 12% superannuation

Hours: 38 hours per week

Renowned for its tandoori dishes, curries, biryanis, vegetarian specialties, and freshly baked naan breads, the restaurant is committed to delivering a memorable dining experience through exceptional food quality and genuine Indian hospitality. We are seeking a skilled and passionate Chef to join our team and contribute to maintaining the high culinary standards our customers have come to expect.

Key Responsibilities


• Prepare, cook, and present a wide variety of authentic Indian dishes, ensuring consistency in flavour, quality, and presentation.


• Assist in designing and updating menus by introducing seasonal dishes and specials while maintaining the restaurant's traditional Indian offerings.


• Monitor food preparation throughout service to ensure meals are prepared efficiently and meet the restaurant's quality standards before being served.


• Calculate ingredient requirements, manage stock levels, and order food supplies to maintain adequate inventory while minimising waste.


• Prepare and marinate meats, seafood, vegetables, sauces, curries, and tandoori items using traditional recipes and cooking techniques.


• Ensure all food is prepared and stored in accordance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations.


• Coordinate kitchen activities during busy service periods to ensure timely preparation and delivery of customer orders.


• Inspect the quality and freshness of ingredients received from suppliers and report any inconsistencies.


• Train, mentor, and supervise kitchen staff on food preparation methods, portion control, presentation standards, and safe work practices.


• Work closely with management and front-of-house staff to accommodate customer dietary requirements, special requests, and service needs.


• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment, ensuring equipment is used and maintained correctly.


• Assist with preserving, storing, and rotating food products to maximise freshness and reduce wastage.

Qualifications


• Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or equivalent qualification.


• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience as a Chef in an Indian restaurant or commercial kitchen.

Skills & Other Requirements


• Strong knowledge of authentic Indian cuisine, including curries, tandoori cooking, biryanis, breads, and vegetarian dishes.


• Experience using traditional Indian herbs, spices, and cooking techniques.


• Sound understanding of food safety, HACCP principles, and workplace health and safety requirements.


• Excellent organisational and time management skills in a fast-paced kitchen environment.


• Ability to supervise and support kitchen staff while maintaining high culinary standards.


• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.


• Commitment to delivering consistently high-quality food and exceptional customer satisfaction.
