About The Upper GI / HPB Fellow The Upper GI/HPB Fellow role is based in the Clayton Campus at Monash Medical Centre. The unit is involved in all aspects of patient care including elective and emergency operating, clinics, daily ward rounds, endoscopy, weekly governance meetings, research and teaching. On average each year there are: More than 5000 patient contacts, We perform over 1000 procedures including; 500 major HPB operations and 120 major Upper GI operations and 600 endoscopies.

About the Role
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective person-centred care, provide teaching and supervision of registrars and junior medical staff. As Fellow of the Unit, you will have a significant responsibility and a complex role.
You will be required to undertake: Patient assessment and management in consultation with the treating consultant Patient care coordination Involvement in major surgery in the UGI/HPB unit (up to 9 lists a week) Perform and assist in major UGI/HPB resections Independently, undertake Fellow lists Assist during Private Operating lists Junior medical staff/ Registrar support, supervision, feedback and teaching Student interaction and teaching Family member communication, feedback and liaison MDT Organisation and participation in meetings. Participation in the Acute Surgery Unit (ASU) roster. The Fellow will be rostered to this one day per week, Monday – Friday and one weekend in four. The conditions for this are the same as those of the ASU consultants. Remuneration includes a lump-sum moiety for the on-call component, and an hourly rate for the agreed number of hours, in hours, required to be on-site. Refer to schedule 2 for the ASU Consultant agreement for most recent detail. The Fellow will only treat public patients; any private in public or Jessie MacPherson patients need to be referred to a consultant. Extensive interaction with the other health professionals, especially, the nursing and allied health staff
Self-management (including time management, accessing education and training and completing college requirements) Provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary treating team Demonstrate commitment towards key organisational initiatives Demonstrate compliance with all relevant Monash Health Policies and Procedures

About You To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge: Maintain clinical knowledge, skills and attributes appropriate to your practice Seek regular feedback on your progress with your clinical supervisor and other members of your team formally and informally. Ensure timely mid and end of term performance appraisals Maintain your health and understand its impact on your performance in the role. Seek help early in case of health-related concerns.

Mandatory requirements of the role:
Primary medical degree (MBBS) or equivalent
FRACS (General Surgery) or equivalent All candidates will require Australian working rights Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Employee Working with Children's Check? Current Drivers Licence
